Creating a safe and an attractive classroom environment

  Brief description
     Creating an engaging, innovative and effective learning environment is an urgent need for our Palestinian schools. This initiative ultimate goal is to grow, develop and show talents into learners. To do so, it works on creating a wonderful and interesting educational environment. Therefore, students come to school happy and cheerful without being afraid or bored. This initiative also focuses on reinforcing and encouraging students in order to learn better. Moreover, the training sessions in Drama in Education at Alqattan Foundation, in addition to the Diploma in teacher training at Al-najah University, contributed for applying this initiative effectively.
 

Outstanding aspects 
     This initiative was a successful and an outstanding step as it really had a great role in building the needed connection between the school and the local institutions to serve the educational process. Examples of these foundations are The Palestinian Red Crescent, Harsh Al-Saada, Water Purification Plant, Khadouri University, the Municipality Public Library, Students' Forum Institute (SFI) and others. Moreover, this initiative organized several activities to attract students. For example, we established a social committee to visit  patient students and teachers from the school. It also had a great positive effect on everyone as we established a football team called Yarmouk Camp; made a school blog and organized Dabkeh.We also applied drama, sport games and active learning to make Arabic learning more interesting.
 
The impact on the initiative
     The training sessions in Drama in Education at Alqattan Foundation, in addition to the Diploma in teacher training at Al-najah University, contributed for applying this initiative effectively. It also made students be more friendly, active and creative. Students were also trained how to take photos, record videos and paint. It also improved their writing skills and they became effective participants
in carrying out some related tasks.


 
Success factors 
     The Arabic language lessons improved the relationship between the school and the local institutions. For instance, the “Red Crescent” lesson was applied at the  Red Crescent Society in Tulkarm. Moreover, the “water” lesson was applied through a visit to the Water Purification Plant at Harsh Al-Saada in Jenin. The “key” lesson was given at an ancient house in the village. The students helped their teacher in taking photos and recording videos through applying these lessons. Furthermore, the school financial support for the football team had also a great positive impact on this initiative.    

Challenges and difficulties 
     There was no doubt that we faced difficulties. However, our determination, intensive and continuous work and the school financial and moral support lead to the success of our initiative.  

Mobility caused by this initiative

     Concerning myself, working continuously to provide a safe and an interesting educational environment has a great positive change on me. For example, I treat my students better now and I have built a good relationship with them especially after visiting me at my house. Concerning my students, they became more creative and more interested and active learners. Now, they wait my lessons eagerly and they even prefer it to physical education. In fact, my classes are like taking a breather to learn. It has also improved their talents in drawing, dancing dabkeh and in writing stories.
